Cold War Kids hit the Heaven Stage at the Masquerade on a Wednesday night. Watching Willet bring the crowd alive with the opening song ‘Royal Blue’ created instant sing-alongs echoing from the crowd. It was obvious this crowd had been waiting with anticipation for a long while for this quartet to hit the stage. By the third song ‘Mexican Dogs’ CWK seemed to settle in to a comfort level that resonated with the crowd. Each song they played the crowd matched word for word.
Willet lead the charge with the heavy tone of his voice and Drummer Matt Averio crushed his drum kit with a driving force. Bassist Matt Maust and Guitarist Dann Gallucci (formely of Modest Mouse) chimed in creating an atmosphere that everyone was excited to be a part of. Watching how well these guys mesh now (compared to my last time seeing them in 2005) was an absolute pleasure. Their growth as a band melded seamlessly with my growth as a person…magical. - James Meadows
